A personal letter from Clint Verran
News 0 CommentsFriends:
I have discovered a new breakthrough treatment for the most stubborn muscle, tendon, and connective tissue injuries. SHOCKWAVE therapy. Letme first start by saying that I was completely skeptical of this technology when it was introduced to me. Now I am a believer. Here’s how it works:
We go out and over-do-it at the gym or on a run. A small micro-tearor trauma occurs to a muscle, tendon, or piece of connective tissue (like the plantar fascia or your IT Band). Our bodies react by producing scar tissue or collagen. That area of the body essentially becomes a scar or a scab. This is fine, but the area becomes non-functional and our bodies tend to “write it off” as a bad debt or an uncollectable account. Eventually, our body gives up on trying to heal this area. This is when that tightness/pain/restriction becomes chronic. It lays there dormant until you try to run fast or startworking out again and then it says “I’m back. Remember me!”
In my office, we have had very good results with treating these areas with old-school ultrasound therapy and a manual therapy technique called Active Release. Anybody that has had Active Release can testify that it is a targeted, somewhat uncomfortable process. I use my thumb pressure along with your active movement to stretch, agitate, and “wakeup” the affected tissue.
SHOCKWAVE therapy take this concept to the next level. After assessing your condition, I can use the SHOCKWAVE generator to penetrate deeper into the injured/ scarred tissue. I deliver 2000 SHOCKWAVES over a span of three minutes. Three treatments are required in one week intervals. The SHOCKWAVES effectively break-up scar formations and “awaken” your body’s own natural healing processes.
SHOCKWAVE therapy does not require local anesthetic and is only mildly irritating or painful. The best part is the mildy irriating treatment only last three minutes. My clients walk out of the clinic with a smile on their face because they can tell immediately that something good has happened. After the first treatment, you can expect to feel like the area had been “stretched out”. It’s after treatments 2 and 3 that you will notice how effective this treatment really is.
I advise my clients to stay active and even continue running or exercising between treatments. I only require that they avoid anti-inflammatory medications like Motrin and Aleve because I want the body’s own healing system to work to it’s maximum potential.
SHOCKWAVE therapy is brand-new in US, and therefore most health insurance companies have not yet seen the cost-saving benefits of this technology. At this time, SHOCKWAVE is a cash-pay ala carte treatment at Clint Verran Sports Medicine.
